I've listened to this several time now and think I heard this right. When Cersei shows Jamie her map being painted on the floor, did Jamie say something about England??

Not a reply but an addition. Just played the scene using CC and they didn't include it! They jumped right to "he made me memorize it!" So I played it again several times, volume way up, and James DOES say "England, he made me memorize it, every town," etc. This confirms the theory that Westeros represents England. I haven't found a transcript on line yet - wonder if it'll be in that? Comments anyone?

I can't quite make out what he says, but it doesn't sound like 'England' to me.

Cersei says something about wether Tywin "...knew it or not." Jaimie responses: "He knew it. He made me memorize it...."

Haha - I can't believe that!

Ok, I agree that the map of Westeros does look at bit like the British Isles (including Ireland added on) and sort of turned upside down and believe that was GRRM's idea as a lot of the story is loosely based on English/Scottish history.

However, I would have thought any references to 'real world' places or countries was a no-no :o

Yes, popular speculation is that the Narrow Sea is the English Channel and Arya's "what's west of Westeros" will be the Americas. But the closed captioning does now have "He knew it."

Thanks for everyone's feedback. "He knew it" makes sense and I guess it does kind of sound like that. I'll check out the CC again.
