I read an interesting article about that, though I can't remember where I found it. Basically, it explained that, while pure gold wouldn't melt at that temperature, there are many gold compounds/alloys that would. It is easier to believe that than it is to believe that Drogo's jewelry was solid gold.
I'd be interested in seeing that article. I found this table of the melting temps of various gold alloys. And none of them are cool enough for a campfire. Besides, didn't Khal Drogo dump out the food cooking in the pot before he threw the gold in? That be a pretty hot meal that they were preparing.

Gold (Fine 24K) 1945 (F)
18K (Green) 1810 (F)
18K (Yellow) 1700 (F)
18K (White) 1730 (F)
18K (Rose) 1655 (F)
14K (Green) 1765 (F)
14K (Yellow) 1615 (F)
14K (White) 1825 (F)
14K (Rose) 1715 (F)
10K (Green) 1580 (F)
10K (Yellow) 1665 (F)
10K (White) 1975 (F)
10K (Rose) 1760 (F)

I think that for now, I'm going to stick to my caramel theory. 8-)
Those aren't nearly all the ways that gold can be alloyed. Jewelry is rarely solid gold due to its soft nature, and the gold in his jewelry was likely alloyed with another metal. If I'm right, the alloys above are only meant to change the color of gold. Adding a non-metal to change the color probably wouldn't change the physical state much (as your list proved) but adding another metal would. Either way, it wouldn't be able to melt as quickly as depicted.

But then again, I ain't no damn geologist.

Yeah.. not gonna happen. Jon was burnt by a single covered lantern and was in no position to even hold Longclaw back in Season 1. Dany is the only one who is fireproof on the show.

Metallurgy done in a cauldron, etc of some kind means that cauldron can get to a higher temperature than the fire itself as it takes on the heat. Usually this requires bellows and the intentional art of raising of the heat by the metallurgist.

To note, this was actually possible...
https://scifi.stackexchange.com/a/28920 Offers an explanation of how this is possible.

If the melting point of a gold-like alloy is low enough to melt that quicky in a soup pot, then it shouldn't be able to kill a grown man in 10 seconds. Burn him badly, sure. But kill him that fast? Nope, I'm just not buying it. I'll stick to my caramel theory.

He suffocated when it covered his facial orifices

To be fair, it wasn't the most sound plot point but it's not as ridiculous as everyone makes it seem is all I'm pointing to

Isn't blood magic required? Whose life will have to be sacrificed to make Jon fire-proof?
Dany was fireproof her whole life (no blood magic required) as evident in S1E1, when she walked into a bath of hot water that her maids told her not to step into or she would be burned. I remember the scene, as it was the first time we got to see Emilia Clarke's wonderfully nude behind. :P

My issue with Jon being able to withstand fire is that he badly burned his hand way back in season 1 as well, when he killed his first Wight when it attacked the Lord Commander.

The only way Jon can be fireproof if he somehow got the ability when he died and was brought back to life.

That only shows she has a high resistance to heat. When Dany tied Mirri Maz Duur to the funeral pyre she was using blood magic to trade her life for her own. The same is suggested when she took out the Dothraki khals. So far, Dany hasn't managed to survive fire without a life being taken.

I get your point. But she didn't die and get reborn. She remained living the whole time... Jon isn't fireproof.

I don't understand. It wasn't about Jon. It was about whether Dany is fireproof. My point is that blood magic was at work when Dany emerged from fire unscathed.

The initial post was a projection about Jon. So I was still on that topic in general.

If she wasn't fire proof, like in the books, she would have no hair, like in the books. I'm still waiting to see if show Dany is or isn't.
