Meera had no sword when Team Bran entered the Three-Eyed Raven's cave—only the dragon-glass enhanced weapons that Sam gave her at the Nightfort. When the WWs broke in, she grabbed one near the entrance.
We see it clearly at Benjen's campsite, and she still has it when they arrive at Castle Black:

During the cave battle, she killed a WW with her Sam-enhanced dragonglass spear and may not have used the sword.
In the books,* the 3ER was Brynden "Bloodraven" Rivers/Targaryen. He was the last-known wielder of the VS sword Dark Sister, which originally belonged to one of Aegon I's sister-wives and was believed lost during the Blackfyre Rebellion.
As Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, he disappeared beyond The Wall and joined the CotF. The Children did not use steel weapons, and it is highly unlikely that anyone else visited the cave before Team Bran.
So Meera's sword MUST be Dark Sister. Otherwise, why would D&D film this plot thread? To me, this seems a *perfect* setup foreshadowing that Meera and Howland Reed will return in S8. Besides Meera'/Dark Sister's new-found powers, HR may have some v-e-r-y interesting information about what really happened at the Tower of Joy.

Meera's Sword=VS Dark Sister?

I am not a book reader, so I'm not annoyed/confused by differences between GRRM's text and the HBO adaptation.
When I saw Meera grab the 3ER's sword in S6, the scene captured my attention. So I digetsed analyses written by knowledgeable book readers. They *100% convinced* me that it is Dark Sister, the VS sword originally forged for Visenya Targaryen, the sister-wife of Aegon the Conqueror.
Yes, recent reports indicate that Ellie Kendrick may not be available during the published S8 filming schedule. No, there is no known casting call for an actor whose description resembles Howland Reed. It is certainly true that R+L=J needs no further evidence from Howland Reed.
Even so, I predict that one or both known survivors of House Reed (who was HR's wife/mother of Meera and Jojen?) will contribute and/or wield this precious VS anti-WW weapon to serve an important, possibly pivotal, purpose in the War for the Dawn.
Duh… Why ELSE would D&D commit valuable screen time to verifying this conclusion?

I was rewatching season 6 and in the episode you mention where Meera grabs a sword near the entrance, it looked as though there was more than one sword leaning against the wall. A few episodes earlier, when they all first arrive, some of the wights follow them into the cave holding swords/weapons etc. They disintegrate on entrance due to the magic and the swords etc. fall to the floor, so it's probably one of those swords left behind that Meera picked up. Certainly makes a lot more sense, in terms of continuity, than Dark Sister.Lyannabanna wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2017 5:19 amMeera had no sword when Team Bran entered the Three-Eyed Raven's cave—only the dragon-glass enhanced weapons that Sam gave her at the Nightfort.
