The invitation to Sansa received from King's Landing is real, and Sansa sent Brienne and Podrik.

At first, it seemed to me that it was a ploy by Petyr, since he did talk about how Briene's presence may complicate things between Sansa and Arya.

The invitation proves that Jon didn't contact Winterfel about what happened. The fucking King in the North didn't send a Raven to Winterfel telling them about the plan to bring the Dead to King's Landing, nor about his suicidal mission beyond the Wall to get one to show to Cersei. This hit-and-miss seems like a seed for how the North might turn their backs on Jon, and turn to Sansa instead. They never liked the idea of him traveling to Dragonstone, all of them object to a southern ruler. They won't take the news that he is part Targaryen lightly. It makes sense for them to reject him, for his plans and his heritage. They can claim that he went to Dany fully knowing of his heritage Sansa did point out that Jon has lost the BotB, and she won it because the Lords of the Vale rode North for her. And that they may turn their backs on him like they did the first time.
